Sorting Through What's Left
My dad and brother visited all last week. This was the first time we’d all been together since my mom died, nine years ago.
My brother had stuff stored here, including his wife’s wedding dress (No one could figure out how it got here. They were married in Prague). He carefully folded the ivory film and packed it amongst his journals and books to take back. The rest will be donated.
All three of us have been shuffling our things between our various locations for decades. Whoever has a house always provides storage and a mailing address for the other two. I’m probably going to leave the country again, so I’m off-loading.
We don’t talk very often, but there’s a lot of evolution with all three of us. We grow like vines into whatever places suit us. This is something only my brother and I could’ve gotten from our dad.

Hi Amy,
Your piece makes me feel reflective and a bit melancholic. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
